NARRATIVE: This report details our discovery of a Breen salvage yard in the FGC-2355 system, during our survey of unusual solar activity.
USS Discovery and USS Shanev, along with a civilian contracted escort vessel were conducting a scientific exploratory mission in FGC-2355, which had been seen exhibiting unusual solar activity on long range subspace sensors.
After a short briefing on the intended destination, how far outside the acknowledged borders of both the Federation and Breen it was, and the newly discovered Breen shield draining technology, our transit to the system through unaligned space proved uneventful.
Upon arrival, the Discovery and Shanev remained together, with the Discovery sensors committed to solar analysis, while the Shanev monitored for any artificial constructs in the system. Captain Wurr maintained a far presence in an overwatch role, observing traffic in and around the system. The FGC-2355 star was visibly dimming and brightening again in a very visual display ahead of us, but radiation in the system was swamping the Discovery's narrowband sensors meaning we would need to get in closer to observe further. Commander Vesani reported that the Shanev had detected a large construct between the innermost planet and the star.
I made the decision to move in to the innermost planet, ordering all vessels to take a polar orbit to mask our approach. At this distance we were able to take some higher resolution scans of the construction. It had six large external constructs, identified as solar arrays, with a central body which was 20 kilometres in length and 5 kilometres in width. At the tip of the central body was a large lens structure, focusing the solar energy to each of the six arms.
At this point, Captain Wurr informed us that he had lost all sensors external to the system, and had detected several Breen vessels leaving cloak. I ordered our group to Red Alert and to tighten the orbit closer to the pole. The Breen vessels appeared to have not detected us and moved in further to the large structure, locking tractor beams on it and moving it slightly out of its orbit. After a brief period of cascading energy release, this revealed that the star was surrounded by holographic field generators, concealing a large shipyard constructed around the sun, filled with salvage of various species from across all four quadrants of the galaxy, including identified Borg, Federation, Dominion, Tzenkethi, Romulan, Klingon and Hazari vessels.
Some of the Borg debris was pushed from the field towards the planet we were orbiting with a tractor beam, before the holographic field was re-established. The Breen vessels once again departed. It is unknown what purpose pushing the Borg debris served, and no surface scans of the planet were undertaken as we left the system once the Breen had moved on. It is possible they are storing salvage behind this holographic field to keep it hidden, moving individual pieces to the planet to carry out work on the pieces in a compartmentalised fashion, however this is pure speculation at this time.
