Starbase 514 (SB514) was a Federation Regula-type starbase in service as the headquarters of the United Sector Taskforce and a major Starfleet facility in the Antos Sector of the Alpha Quadrant. Constructed in 2354, SB514 is a fully equipped Starbase, capable of supporting a large array of mission types in and around the surrounding sectors. SB514 features cutting edge defensive systems, with expansive engineering teams, drydock facilities and state of the art science and medical facilities. The Starbase also features a large civilian and merchant populace offering extensive R&R functions to any docked vessels.
Designed with high modularity and interoperability the Starbase has maintained the overall same size and shape through its extensive life, however in more recent years it has taken on much heavier armour as a result of tensions in the area from both True Way and Breen agitators.
History
Original Construction
Originally constructed in 2354, Starbase 514 was envisioned as a research station, tasked with survey of the nearby Black Cluster, an anomaly which was formed about nine billion years ago believed to be the result of hundreds of collapsed protostars within a dense star cluster.
Deep within the Alpha Quadrant, Starbase 514 was often used as a staging ground for expeditions and as a resource hub, supporting the region’s Federation colonies, and providing relief support to nearby Deep Space 3.
Location
Starbase 514 is located in a planetary star system known as Wolf 901, nearly 100 lightyears from Sol, in the Antos Sector of the Alpha Quadrant. The station itself maintains a circular orbit at 0.6AU from the system’s K-Type star, and is located close to the orbit of the third planet in the system. Starbase 514 is in synchronous rotation with the system’s star. In lieu of actual relative rotation, the station uses a simulated day/night cycle of 24 standard hours.

Power Generation Systems
As a large structure designed to support an equally large number of vessels, Starbase 514 has multiple power generation facilities throughout its structure. With 3 x Synchronized Yoyodyne 44A M/ARC Reaction Cores providing primary power and 6 x FIG-5 Subatomic Unified Fusion Reactor Units for backup and auxiliary generation, the starbase is adequately capable of maintaining full system power in all but the most dire of circumstances.
While the starbases full complement of scientific and crew support systems can be operated with a standard power draw, the defensive systems and Starship support systems require the full gamut of power afforded by the elaborate generation systems, of particular note, the large constantly active anti-matter generation facilities within 514, responsible for providing anti-matter fuel for both starships and 514’s torpedo production systems. With all 24 anti-matter generators at peak performance, Starbase 514 has a peak output of 3.84m3/hr of anti-deuterium.
Matter/Anti-Matter Reaction Systems
During normal operations, each of the three Yoyodyne 44A M/ARC cores are kept at a 25% operating level, increasing to 45% during Red Alert conditions. If one of the cores is offline, either due to maintenance or damage, the remaining two cores are able to maintain full system power, each operating at 60% capacity. Should only one core remain available, the backup fusion generators are committed to provide full power.
Fusion Power Systems
During normal operations, the station’s fusion reactors are committed to providing primary power to the anti-matter production facilities within the starbase. During Red Alert conditions, the reactors swap to a hot standby state, ready to assume power generation should the primary M/ARC system be compromised.
Catastrophic Emergency Procedures
In the event of an emergency, each individual component of the Engineering stack can be ejected, be that the anti-matter pods, the individual reactors, or in dire situations, the entire stack itself.
Tactical and Defensive Systems
Despite its initial intended purpose, Starbase 514 has received retrofits throughout the 24th and 25th century in response to the turbulent times of the Borg Discovery, Dominion War, and later Tzenkethi Incursions, meaning the defence of the Federation’s borders was being given the highest priority. The highly efficient Class 10 Hull Conformal Regenerative Shielding System provides a significant obstacle to would be attackers, providing a nearly complete shield coverage with the 48 Sequential Graviton Polarity generators with no “bubble” effect seen in designs commonly used aboard starships. The system can maintain this level of protection with 16 damaged generators, and is able to hold a complete shield coverage with just 12 functional generators.
To support defensive operations, Starbase 514 is also equipped with a large array of phaser and torpedo systems to give pause to even the most hostile adversary. With fifty-seven distinct phaser emitters and twenty-four torpedo fire systems, the starbase has a comprehensive defence system.

Starbase
Our main starbase, this is our central facility located in the Alpha Quadrant in the Izar sector. The starbase is located in interstellar space, so, in spite of its logo, the exterior and interior will closely match how they would appear.
Operations Deck
The primary deck represents Deck 12 of the Starbase, the top level of the Promenade featuring Omarg’s Bar and various Outfitters. It also features a meeting room and generic operations room which may be used as seen fit.
Tactical Deck
This deck represents spacedock and small craft operations control as relief from Primary Operations, but is capable of replicating all Operations functions.
Science Deck
A medical ward located deep within the Starbase Hospital complex, and a science lab located within one of the three ejectable science facilities around the central core of the starbase.
Engineering Deck
If you really think a vague holographic DNA helix counts as a station reactor core, knock yourself out! Otherwise, have free reign of the yellow carpets!
Embassy
Also located within the Starbase structure, the main structure of the Embassy is representative of the Diplomatic Suites on the Starbase directory. Embassy Operations is representative of the Starbase Main Operations, while the shuttlebay can be a pressurized service bay on the floor of the docking bays area.
Dilithium Mine
A dilithium mine as stated, previously owned by a private company, Domino Enterprises, this facility is now owned by a mining conglomerate who bought rights to the name.
Starfleet still sees its regular shipments of expected purity Dilithium so no questions have been raised. |
Spire
Located within the Jenolan Dyson Sphere, this location serves as a depot and waypoint for expeditions into the Delta Quadrant, both mounted by Starfleet and by the greater Khitomer Alliance.
The United Sector Taskforce maintains a small, but well equipped outpost, with several transport ships serving expeditions deeper in the Delta Quadrant, as well as science expeditions within the sphere itself. |
